The Future of Malibu - Development?

Whole Foods? Dean and DeLuca? Randy Gerber, Malibu restaurant? New Legacy Park at Cross Creek with lagoons? PCH Medians getting landscaped?

So many rumors/truths and new energy it is hard to know what exactly is happening here in the quaint, low key town of Malibu. Recently, Malibu residents felt the loss of our only Blockbuster, Champagne Bakery, Granita of WolfGang Puck, Malibu Lumber, Cosentino's Florist and now Planet Blue Kids and 9026Eyes. Cosentino's, by the way, was replaced by Ralph Lauren. The locally owned hotels, Malibu Beach Inn and Casa Malibu were both bought by David Geffen and Larry Ellison, respectively. The Malibu Beach Inn is currently under construction and expected to open in May 2007. The rooms, and rates, for that matter are going to be superior to anything Malibu has ever seen.

One thing is for sure...change is happening. There are more billionaires shaping the future of Malibu then we understand. If you don't own property, now is the time to buy and hold. The public has yet to seen the overall vision of this beach village, and there are mixed feelings about the direction the city is headed. What is your take? Do you know of any new businesses headed in or out of Malibu?

Carbon Beach - Why is IT so special?

Carbon Beach, with nicknames like the "Gold Coast" & "Billionaire's Beach" truly a world landmark lending itself to some of the most recognizable last names and boasting some of the greatest architecture.

As one of the most centrally located beaches in Los Angeles, its wide, sandy beach is what makes it so valuable. Malibu beaches are valued by their use. The further out the tide, the more dry sand, the more expensive. Homes built on stilts above the median high tide line are less valuable. Carbon Beach is a clean, safe, and sandy beach.

Pinned between the Pacific Coast Highway and the Pacific Ocean the homes are exposed to some of the most extreme elements. That doesn't mean you get a discount to own or build here. The cheapest home on this beach runs about $10 million, and that is for a fixer. With last names like Morton, Ellison, Geffen, Katzenburg, Aniston, & Cox (her home is for sale at 33.5 million and was designed by John Lautner )

Pt. Dume - The Most Sought After Malibu Neighborhood

Good luck on finding a home for sale on Pt. Dume, with view and private Little Dume beach key (http://www.rockcitynews.com/pages/california/labeaches/littledume.html) for under $5 million. You may get the view, but no beach key, or vice versa. Regardless, the neighborhood is one of the most sought after places to live right now in Malibu. With recent celebrity purchases (Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock, Julia Roberts, Red Hot Chili Peppers member, Rick Rubin etc) one of the finest elementary schools in LA http://www.pointdume.smmusd.org/, family environments, proximity to supermarket and stores, and overall central location no wonder everyone wishes to live here.

Larry Ellison: Another Malibu Purchase

The most recent purchase by billionaire Larry Ellison took place in the last month on Carbon Beach adjacent to his two other commercial properties, the long vacated Windsail Property, and the formerly known Pierview Restaurant. The new property purchase is the retired looking Casa Malibu Inn - beachside shack of rooms with a depressing facade sitting across from the one and only KFC (nothing like coating the skin with chicken grease to maximize that tan). http://www.malibutimes.com/articles/2007/02/07/news/newsbriefs.txt

Oscar Weekend

Parties and celebrities in LA all weekend. Good luck on finding a hotel this weekend. You may have to be as far out as Malibu - oh, but wait, we don't have any hotels right now. David Geffen who has purchased and completely gutted the only major hotel (only 47-rooms) we had to begin with, The Malibu Beach Inn. It is undergoing a major renovation. Probably won't be sleeping bodies until summer. It is understood that Larry Elison just bought the other boutique inn, The Casa Malibu. Both locations are on Carbon Beach, aka the Gold Coast. Look at the price per square foot and you'll understand it is not the irradescent sand that gives it its name "gold".
